Pordenone, 4th July 2024_ Months of work and “just” three days of Italian Baja, from today to saturday. If there was a possibility, we could be sure that the Furistrada Club 4X4 Pordenone would want a race long a week, compatible with an exhausting preparation effort. Since those who live behind the curtains of the organizations know how many “details” are requested to make a great international race, and having in consideration that, for the biggest part, these are volunteers and that, to pull the strings, is an amateur sports association. Having said this, the biggest news of 2024 is that pilots won’t compete for the World Cup, but for the FIA Europe Cup, in deference to an alternation between the steps in the old continent. But the contestants are still 71 in total, which means that the number hasn’t changed from the last World Cup edition. And this year (other news) the Italian Baja will also be part of the Hungarian Championship, as well as of the Italian Cross Country Baja and Ssv.
So we’ll have at the starting line many Magyars crews with important names like Miroslav Zapletal (H3 Evo) and Imre Varga (Toyota Hilux Overdrive), already seen many times on the rivers Cosa and Tagliamento. Will look for a place in the spotlight also local pilots and co-drivers, Federico Buttò (Can Am), Andrea Tomasini (Can Am) and Claudio Allegranzi (Suzuki Vitara) at the steering wheel, Mirko Brun, Stefano Lovisa, Roberto Marzocco, Angelo Mirolo, Chiara Zoppellaro and Sandra Castellani on the passenger seat.
Today at the Interporto di Pordenone the sportive checks of the competitors and the technical checks of the vehicles will be carried out. Tomorrow morning, from 9 to 12, the shakedown in San Martino al Tagliamento. Then in the afternoon, first the press conference of the drivers at 15, then the official departure at 17 and then the start of the prologue (12 km) at 18. Saturday in the program three passages on the long selective sector (95 km) with the start of the first competitor at 8, 12:30 and 17. In the evening awards and press conferences at Interporto.
