Miki Biasion is the star of the Italian Baja 2014, scheduled from 13 to 16 March.
Run or not run, to date the conditional is a must, he will be the guest of honor of an evening dedicated to Claudio "Caco" Azzaretti, one of the founding fathers of the race, who passed away last year following an incurable disease . The two-time world rally champion certainly had no difficulty in discovering an off-roader soul and the transition to all terrain was the natural evolution of his driving talent.
The Italian Baja came for the first time in 1996 with a curious "raised" Lancia Delta in the Astra version of Team Pregliasco, giving a show on the beach of Lignano and the fords of Cellina-Meduna. In 1997 another passage to Pordenone on the occasion of the Paris-Moscow Master Rally, starting the adventure with the Iveco trucks which then took him to the Dakar and again to the Italian Baja in 2000, defeated only by the unbeatable Russian Kamaz with overwhelming power.
Now, 14 years later, the ace from Bassano del Grappa hopes to have a new opportunity to race on the serious Friulians. “Over time a great mutual esteem with Mauro Tavella has been strengthened - explains Biasion - and I immediately accepted his invitation to the Baja as a testimonial hoping to be able to compete. This is an exceptional event, a point of pride in the panorama of car competitions which, despite the crisis, keep the prestige of Made in Italy high. I am looking for a competitive bike because I would like to challenge the cross country specialists, but in any case I will be there, with the suit or without ”.
On Friday evening 14 March at the Fiera in Pordenone (organized by Fuoristrada Club 4x4 and Knife Racing Maniago) the winner of the Azzaretti Memorial will be awarded, i.e. the competitor who has signed the absolute best time between cars, motorcycles, quads and trucks, in the super special afternoon internship from Cordenons to Zoppola. The trophy will be presented by the widow of the "Caco", Andreina, in the presence of the beloved daughters Donatella, Federica and Chiara.
